We recently went to Bordeaux to visit a small leather atelier. The head of the workroom had seen Sofie carrying the Peau de Chagrin bag in Paris and asked who made it, which led to us being in Bordeaux.
The city is quintessentially French, beautiful and known for its wine.
Less well known is that Bordeaux has many leather ateliers, with artisans commissioned to make trunks, the city being an important port for centuries, and cases for wine collectors. Some ateliers focus primarily on accoutrements for hunting. On our visit, the work rooms were restoring two old well traveled trunks.
It was heart warming to see beautifully made leather trunks having aged wonderfully over time and now being carefully restored by skilled craftsmen so that they can be used for decades to come.
